the biggest reason why im here, is to learn slovak, and learn to know how people in slovakia do things. the best way to learn seems to be to ask, so ill start by asking some questions
1. do you always eat soup before the main meal? i know the soup isnt filling at all, this is not usual for me, everyday meals are just one meal, unless i really feel like making food of course
2. do you dislike speaking in other languages than your own? because you dont feel secure in your abilities, or because you essentially dont want to make an effort? what about reading in other languages? i understand almost everything is dubbed on tv too? thats not normal at all for me either. nothing in finland or sweden is dubbed, except childrens programs. i think that is an important part, since so many people watch tv, it has a very big impact on everyones lives. i mean how used you are to hearing other languages than your own. maybe ill write in finnish next time, just to force you to read it
3. if any of your grandparents are alive, where do they live? by themselves or home with your parents? or in a retirement home? for me it is normal that aged people either live by themselves, if they can, or together with others in retirement home. ive worked in such a place and it seems they are enjoying the company of others, and the activites that are arranged for them
that should be enough questions for now, if you read this i hope you arent too lazy to write a comment and answer or just give your opinion, even if you reply to just one question in any case, i hope i helped you see a bit how i (and therefore maybe finns and swedes) think
p.s. whats better, writing in slovak and not making much sense, or writing in english, which does feel a bit strange to do here?
p.p.s. if you already read my other blogs you will maybe have noticed that i didnt put a song here. im not sure whether or not to continue with songs in my blog, since i myself often find hidden songs like that annoying. what do you think?

1. I personally don´t like eating soup before the main meal. it fills me up and I don´t get to savour the rest of the lunch/dinner. My mum, on the other hand, insists on eating soups. she says its good for health I think this old custom is dying out slowly

better in english definitely cause there is a big difference between a bad slovak speaker and google translator. the first one is cute but the second one....not really....

First, it´s really admirable than you try to write in slovak I´ve read your blogs and I´ve understood nearly all sentences...
So I´ll try to ask your questions...

first of all, thanks to everyone for your comments and thoughts. all of you made sense, dont worry about that
1. it im not surprised to hear this. it seems this is a tradition that young people are more and more leaving behind, but is still widespread. i think in a few years ,or rather decades, this tradition will have been pretty much disappeared from practice. not that i didnt enjoy eating soup, its pretty good for getting the stomach started, but because its not very practical in a fast moving world. by the way, i was surprised the first time i heard about this kind of soup. for me, soup is a main meal, like fish soup or pea soup or something like that, and not just something that you eat before the main meal that doesnt fill you.
2. so young people mostly have no other problem speaking and writing english other than their nervosity it seems. i think the dubbing isnt causing less of language knowledge, but its likely it is pointing towards that a bit older people would rather look at tv in their own language. youth is always changing much more than older people and also in a way that seems to make everyone in the world seem more or less alike. what i mean is that young people everywhere are more like each other in different countries than aged people.
3. this matter seems to be very similar to my country, in that aged people live alone in a flat as long as they can. but here, i think it is very common with retirement homes, and it is nothing thats looked down upon. sadly all my grandparents are dead, so i cant say anything from my own experience. they did live on their own until the died though.

@anzu yes, many countries have dubbed. pretty much all the countries ive been to have dubbed tv, except nordic ones. i think it has very much to do with attitude to language. maybe it doesnt cause a change in attitude, but it is certainly a pointer of how you think about it. i think everyone should know at least two languages, and i really feel sorry for english people who never learn any other languages.. i understood your post perfectly, dont worry ill get around to anwering your last question some time in another blog i think, no hurry, no worry

My English isn"t the best, but I would like to add a comment for this article, because it impressed me.

2.) I don"t like speaking in other languages, because I feel quite insecure . But I like writing with people from other countries, so I found even more friends.

Hi this blog is interested because for me is weird that Finnish young man want to learn Slovak language. I thought that´s a joke.

i think you should write in english... the slovak language is kind of hard and even a little mistake can change the meaning of what your sentence is supposed to mean
